Here are a few of the businesses and organizations in our community that contribute to the success of your children's and family's safety by contributing to PKF. Make sure to show them the same support... let's keep the cycle of community safety in motion.

Welcome to Put Kids First! Our site, like PKF is dedicated to children's safety issues. You'll find an abundance of information and resources on this site so grab a chair and educate yourself, then educate all those you know, love and care about too!

------  Target Proof Your Kids! ---»

Here are some things
you can do...

Ensure that your children never walk to or from school alone.

Make sure your children always use the buddy system.

Show your children safe places to go if someone ever approaches them while they are walking home (with their buddy of course).

Reinforce the importance of the "Buddy System"!

Teach your children that if a car ever approaches them, to run in the opposite direction that the car is facing, and always tell a trusted adult as soon as possible

Ensure your children know that it is not their responsibility to help adults. If an adult needs help finding something, or getting directions, they should ask another adult.

Teach your children to trust their instincts. If something makes them uncomfortable, take their concerns seriously.

Ask your child's school to help!!!

Ask your PAC to bring Put Kids First into your school to speak.

If not a policy now, ask your school to have younger students go to the washrooms in pairs.

Do you think the Dangerous Offenders Act needs to be changed?

Maybe it just needs to be applied! How many DOs are declared per year? Not enough. Click to read an important article from CBC Canada. If you're tired of repeat sex offenders that are admittedly extremely dangerous to our children, then please send this letter to your member of parliament. It could make all the difference in the world. Share it with your family and friends

Here is a letter and here is a link to find the address of your local MP. Send your letter today!

When you're done there, check out The Furious Grannies - Dangerous Offender Petitition.

Do You Think the Age of Consent Should be Raised From 14 to 16?

The age of sexual consent in Canada is 14 years old, this means that if an adult can convince a child of 14 to say a sexual relationship is consensual they can't be charged or go to jail. We believe that the age of consent needs to be raised, if you agree, go HERE and print out petitions for your friends and family to sign. Visit the Children of the Street Society for more info.

Safety Tips for All Ages!

When you’re out walking, it’s safer to use only one headphone. This would make it easier for you to hear approaching footsteps or a car.

Walk against the flow of traffic, you will be able to see approaching cars.

In parking lots, try not to park beside vans without windows, or whose windows are blacked out.

Remember, always be aware of your surroundings and what’s going on around you, and trust your instincts

There are more than 100,000 child pornography sites on the internet

The innocent victims of Internet child abuse cannot speak for themselves. But you can. With your help, this evil trade can be eradicated by simply lighting a candle of support. The more candles that are lit, the more powerful our voice becomes. This petition will be used to encourage governments, politicians, financial institutions, payment organisations, Internet service providers, technology companies and law enforcement agencies to eradicate the commercial viability of online child abuse.

Please light your candle at www.lightamillioncandles.com
