This page is here for you to have a little fun and learn how to keep yourself safer. Take your time, look around, play a few games, learn some stuff then teach your friends and family what you've learned!  Leap Frog and the rest of us here at PKF are always interested in what you have to say. We learn important stuff from you! If you have a safety tip, know of a super safe web site, or have a story to share with PKFers, send it to Leap Frog... (Get a parent's permission first of course!)

Know your Stranger Danger Safety Facts!

Here are some tricks commonly used by strangers when they try to lure children and
some tips to help keep you safe. Learn them and share them with a friend!

Asking for your help. You're walking home from school (with a friend of course) and a car pulls up near you. The driver ask you for directions to the post office. You should turn around and run in the opposite direction. Adults should ask other adults for help; they should not ask children.

Offering you gifts. Stay out of reach and never accept items from a stranger.

Getting your child to let them in the house. Only an adult should open a door to a stranger. If there are no adults present, the child should say that Mom or Dad is busy - come back later. A kid should never admit to a stranger that they are home alone. If this happens to you and you feel uncomfortable or nervous afterward, call someone you know and tell them about it.

Getting a child to admit over the telephone that they are home alone. "Is your mother or father home?" The child should say that Mom or Dad are busy, offer to take a message or just hang up.

Always tell your parent where you are going, what time and how you will get home. Make sure you give them the address and telephone number where you will be.

Walking home alone is never a great idea. Use the buddy system. There's strength in numbers. If you have to walk alone stay away from the curb and pay attention to what's going on around you. It's a good idea for you and your parents to pick a Block Parent then if you feel there's a problem or someone is making you uncomfortable you can go to there

We all need a break sometimes. Take a little break and just play around for a bit!

Home Alone?

Don't enter your home if something looks wrong, like the door is open or a window broken.

Call a designated person as soon as you are home so someone will know you arrived safely.

Know how and when to call 911!

Have a backup person to call in case of emergency!

Don't go and visit friends without a parent's permission. They may get frightened when they don't know where you are!

Never answer the door for someone you do not know or tell someone over the phone you are home alone.

Internet Safety

Do not have a computer in a child's room or somewhere isolated in your house, have it where you can see it.
Make a point of learning enough about the computer so that you know what your child is doing and where they'er going online.
Don't use your real names or identifying information in your email addresses, this can protect kids from predators as well as helping protect all of us from identity fraud.
Never agree to meet anyone who you've met online without a parent's permission or supervision, this will help ensure that people are who they say they are.
If you use any IM sites like MSN messenger or ICQ, don't add people to your contacts list unless you know them in person.

Don't give out your friends, or enemies email address to anyone else online

What Can Predators Find Out About You or Your Children? Go to www.google.com to find out. Search your family's name and see what's out there. In the age of technology there is so much information out there that anyone could find you if they really want to. Please educate yourself and make sure your kids have the tools they need to be safe online. You have taken the first step by coming to this site.
