A Filipino sailor has been charged with possession of
child pornography following his arrest in Prince Rupert.
Const. Steve Richards of Prince Rupert RCMP said Canadian
Border Services Agency officers boarded a freighter anchored
in Prince Rupert on the weekend.
"During that search, officers located child pornography
that was in the possession of a crew member," Richards
said yesterday.
The crew member remains in custody pending a court appearance.
The arrest comes less than two months after two sailors
from Hong Kong were charged with possessing child pornography
after their freighter was boarded by agents at the Saskatchewan
Wheat Pool's North Vancouver dock. Those charges stem
from digital photos found on laptop computers on board
the ship.
The sailors were released on bail on the condition they
maintain contact with RCMP and advise them when they're
within 48 hours of arrival in the Port of Vancouver.
