The executive director of Surrey Metis Family Services
was arrested Wednesday and flown to Toronto to face child
sexual assault charges.
Bill Lee, 67, was inside the office of the Surrey advocacy
society when police executed a Canada-wide warrant that
had been issued for a pair of assaults that occurred in
the 1970s.
According to Toronto police, the victims who came forward
with information a week and a half ago, were between six
and 11 years old at the time of the alleged assaults.
Lee has been charged with five counts of indecent assault
and two counts of buggery. He was named executive director
of the Surrey group in 2003.
Ron Shortt, now the acting executive director for Metis
Services, said Lee had no unsupervised contact with children
during his stint in Surrey.
“He didn’t have a case load of his own. His
duties were more of the administrative type,” Shortt
said.
Toronto police fear there may be more victims. Lee has
worked across Canada and his job has put him in direct
contact with children.
He is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court today (Wednesday).
Anyone with information about Lee is asked to call police
