The distraught parents of Delta teen Britanny Stalman, who
disappeared more than a month ago, issued a plea yesterday
for anyone who might have seen the girl to come forward.
"We are making a plea to the public," Sandra
and Mike Stalman said. "Did you see her talking to
someone sitting at a bus stop or walking through the park?
Was she at a gas station or a convenience store, or maybe
you saw her getting in to a car? You may not realize the
importance of what you saw. We just need a tip.
"Britanny, we love you, we miss you. We just want
you home. It's just not the same without you, honey."
The outgoing 17-year-old has not been seen since she
left home at about 1 p.m. on Nov. 13 -- the Monday of
the Remembrance Day holiday -- after a fight on the phone
with her boyfriend.
Although the teen had suffered a bout of depression in
the past, she had received counselling and was not on
medication, her parents said.
Britanny had plans to see friends later in the day and
left home upset for a walk "just to decompress"
-- her way of dealing with stress, they added.
She took only a pink discman with her -- "she was
always listening to music" -- but no purse or bank
card and has not tried to access her account since.
The family has canvassed friends, distributed leaflets
and searched. The Missing Children Society has assisted
with advice and posters, and a private detective hired
by the family has investigated -- all to no avail.
Delta RCMP Const. Sharlene Brooks said yesterday that
police have run down the few tips they received without
success -- including a possible sighting near 64th Avenue
and Westview Drive on Nov. 13.
Britanny is five feet six inches tall, 110 pounds, with
a slim build, long, brown hair and brown eyes. She was
wearing a black, zip-up-style bomber jacket, grey sweat
pants and blue-and-white runners.
