Two teenage girls were followed onto a bus by a pair of
suspicious men Monday night.
Ridge Meadows RCMP said the girls were upset after the
incident, which began in downtown Maple Ridge near 227th
Street, just north of Lougheed Highway.
A man first approached the girls just after 9:35 p.m.
He spoke to the girls and gestured for them to go with
him, RCMP media liaison Dan Herbranson said.
When the girls continued walking, the man appeared angry.
The girls kept walking towards their bus stop across the
street from the Ridge Meadows RCMP detachment.
According to police, a second man who had been standing
on 227th Street followed them to the bus stop.
"The men appeared to be partnered up," Herbranson
said.
"Certainly the girls never saw them talk to one
another, but they appeared to make some hand-type gestures."
The second man followed the girls onto the No. 701 bus
heading west on Dewdney Trunk Road.
The girls told police he sat close enough to hear their
conversation and got off the bus as one of them did at
Laity Street.
The man walked in the opposite direction, but police
were told he looked back at the girl on several occasions.
Herbranson said there are several reasons why RCMP want
to identify these men.
"Is this totally innocent or are there other unreported
incidents where someone has shrugged it off?" he
said.
Descriptions of the men:
• An Indo-Canadian man, 25-30 years old, standing
6'2'' and weighing 200 pounds, with a dark goatee and
short black hair. He was wearing a brown jacket, dark
T-shirt and blue jeans. Police believe the man is linked
to a newer two-door navy blue car, possibly a Japanese
make. The car was lowered, with a large spoiler and a
white lightning bolt down the side.
• The second man was Caucasian, 35-45 years old,
standing 6'4'' with a stocky build and weighing more than
250 pounds. His head was shaved and he had a two-day-old
beard growth and grey hair.
Anyone who might knows the identity of either of these men
is asked to contact Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251,
File No. 2006-28706. |
