Abbotsford police are looking for a high-risk sex offender
who has a history of running. Anthony Helary, 50, is wanted
on a Canadawide warrant after he failed to check in with
his probation officer Tuesday.
Helary's rap sheet includes violent sexual offences and
property crimes dating to the 1970s. In June, Abbotsford
police warned he was living in the community after his
release from Matsqui Institution.
As part of his release, Helary was not allowed to possess,
own or carry weapons and was required to obey an 11 p.m.-to-6
a.m. daily curfew.
In 1992, Helary he escaped from a minimum-security prison
in New Brunswick. Helary, who'd been close to completing
a 13-year prison term for two sexual assaults, was captured
in Toronto six months later.
In 1997, Helary received a seven-year sentence for another
sexual assault. In 2004, he walked away from a work crew
in Prince George. He was found in Saskatchewan.
