West Van police search for missing teen

West Vancouver police have issued a public appeal for help in finding a Squamish Nation teen who disappeared after going to Surrey to meet a man she had met on the Internet.

Alexa Baker, 17, was last heard from when she called a relative Sunday from the "baby section" of the Sears department store at Guildford Mall in Surrey.

Her guardian contacted police, who began their investigation.

Det. Erin Findlay of the West Van police said Baker has no history of going missing. "At this point, we'd just like to know she's safe," said Findlay. "Because of her age and because we don't know who she's gone to see, we'd like her to call [police or family]," she said.

Anyone who has seen Baker is also asked to call West Vancouver police at 604-925-7300.

Baker is five feet seven inches tall and weighs about 300 pounds.

She was wearing a brown, knee-length puffy coat, brown furry boots and long dangling earrings. Baker was also carrying a pink wrist purse.

The resident of Ho-mulchsen, which is also known as the Capilano Reserve, began her journey to Surrey by boarding the SeaBus at Lonsdale Quay at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
